Christmas in the Old Country
Thank you all for coming!
See you in the New Year....
A long-time Cranbrook tradition for the whole family, our seasonal concert features a special setting of Dylan Thomas' A Child’s Christmas in Wales, a nostalgic tribute to holidays of a simpler time, set to delightful music by Canadian composer Claude Lapalme. Dylan Thomas’ classic words will be read by 2Day FM's morning man Dennis Walker (above). In addition to some traditional carols, the orchestra will present tuneful music with a folk-inspired flavour by English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams. Fantasia on Greensleeves is an introspective favourite and we present selected movements from his English Folk Song Suite. Also included is the other Sleigh Ride piece by Frederick Delius. Most of us are familiar with Leroy Anderson's work by the same name; Delius' take on the quintessential winter activity is equally enjoyable. Edward Elgar's eternal classic Pomp & Circumstance March #2 kick-starts the second half of our program and we wrap up with a tribute to Canadian Brass with a medley of carols and favourites.
